1. $ echo "autospawn=no" >> $HOME/.pulse/client.conf
2. $ pulseaudio -k
3. $ aplay some_wave_file

This has to be done after commenting /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
as root.

To get pulse back:
1. remove "autospawn=no" from $HOME/.pulse/client.conf
2. # /etc/init.d/pulseaudio start

and you're done.

I am alway wondering for what that fucking pulse is neede for.
Especially it's dependencies on most every windowmanagers. or the
system bells? If you you need a real _audioserver_ try or jackd or
others.
