Tested. Works great. Applied patch to Debian sources of version 6-1.1, then
built local packages. Then ran 'update-initramfs -k all -u' while running my
current custom kernel:

    $ uname -r
    3.2.10-1+dwlocal1

Rebooted, and tested two Debian kernels:

    linux-image-3.2.0-2-amd64
    linux-image-3.3.0-rc6-amd64

Both worked fine: initrd boot finished properly, all necessary modules present,
and nothing bad from dmesg or bootlogd in either case.

Thanks Lucas!  Thanks Marco,
Dave W.
