That's debatable, indeed. Maintainers scripts should take care to cope
with locally changed settings when they use debconf to set some of
them.

And, sure, that makes maintainer scripts pretty tricky to fine-tune.

I tried to deal with that in my own geneweb package and the result is,
ahem, kinda awkward..:-)
