Well that's the problem then. So far it was only tested and setup to work with module-assistant and linux-modules-2.6-nonfree. What arguments/environment do you pass along to binary_modules? It was never meant to be used without arguments after all. Now making the makefile figure out the version if it isn't specified should certainly be possible.
