Hi, I noticed indeed a strange behavior of fakeroot in a sid chroot when using an old kernel (stretch) : ls and stat are not faked (ie they output the real owner and group instead of root) whereas file works correctly :
# file /dev/console outputs /dev/console: character special (5/1) May this be related (just guessing) to bug #940056 "fakeroot does not fake statx()" and ls and stat making use of statx since version 8.32 of coreutils (uploaded 2020-06-22 in unstable) ? I hope it will help ! Regards, JH Chatenet
