Is XFree86 4.0.2 the only thing you upgraded? Or did you upgraded libc6 and locales to 2.2 also? If the latter, make sure you uncomment zh_TW.Big5 in /etc/locale.gen and rerun gen-locales (or something like that... I can't remember the spelling... I am on a potato machine at the moment.
