Well, I think this is where we disagree. I don't think having a kernel without a console till initrd is a good idea. I understand it's technically possible, but, doesn't seem like something the standard kernel should be doing. Maybe in 2.6 the initrd mechanism will be really slick and not so error prone, but right now there are just too many things that can go wrong between LILO and the initrd startup. To have no diagnostic during that period is not such a good idea. Jason
