It is mentioned in the manpage, have you read that yet? > Is that the correct place to pass it? You need to pass it before any dpkg-buildpackage options, like so: $ debuild --preserve-envvar=SHELL -uc -us -b See the EXAMPLES section of said manpage. Cheers, Sven
