Regarding the Lout backend: I'm thinking about playing with it to see whether we can use more of the built-in functionality of Lout, similar to what we're doing in LaTeX backend. For example using one of the available document formats. Especially when we're implementing more advanced features such as indexing, tables, figures, etc. it might be worthwhile.
