Unless someone steps forward and become active in the debian-edu security team, We _will_not_ add more packages to debian-edu that are not maintained upstream Debian. We should have a pretty good reason to include something that does not come from the current stable release of Debian. That means that we dont want to have a newer version of X, nor a newer version of libc, kde or almost any other package that there exist a newer package for. I do have one exception, and whether to include it or not depends on the debian-maintainer. -OOo2 has one huge advantage, and that is OpenOffice.org-base. People have requested something like for a long time, and although i've haven't found the time to test it yet, and the only test I've read about it mentions a java-based engine, I guess this is an important inclusion. -People tells me that OOo2-impress is much better then the old. -OOo2 also has one big disadvantage that calls for it's inclusion in debian-edu. People tend to fetch the latest version when they download to use on their MSwindows-based computer. Then they end up with a new document format at home, which they can neither open in MSOffice, nor in OpenOffice on their school (or office). And even if it was the users fault that they are unable to switch to use old 1.1.3 compatible file-format (either native OpenOffice or MSOffice), they will blame us. So if the backport of OOo2 provided by Rene, means that the OOo-debian-team will continue to provide a backport (also security patched if needed), then I'm willing to include the backport. But Only after I've tested to rebuild the packages.
