Files stored below /usr/share/doc/<package>/examples are intended to be _copied_ manually by the local admin, not used programmatically. Please do not install examples below /usr/share/doc if they are to be symlinked to other places. The system should not rely on /usr/share/doc being available at all - so if using the examples, then do the opposite: put the files below e.g. /usr/lib/<package> and add a symlink below /usr/share/doc/<package>/examples/ to _also_ promote it as an example.
