I'm unable to figure out what is wrong from the logs. :( My best idea is that there is something wrong with the SSL certificate in /etc/ldap/ssl/ldap-server-pubkey.pem, and I wrote and commited a new test in the ldap-client test script to detect if there is something wrong with it. To test this hypothesis, try to add 'tls_checkpeer no' in /etc/nss-ldapd.conf and see if it helps. One strange thing I noticed in the strace -f output is that there is no failing connect() to the LDAP server.
