I am confused. Surely you mean 2.6.26-2-686?

Did you get it from upstream? The Debian package has a bug that leaves
out ath5k and ath9k (see earlier discussions in the mailing list
archive from the past month about this). So that version won't work.

Does your router use encryption? WPA/WPA-2 perhaps? The netinstall
does not contain any WPA support yet, so you need to temporarily
disable WPA on your router to do the install. After the installation
is complete, you can use WPA again.

A Debian package, you mean? This is something we're waiting for the
debian-kernel team to do. As soon as they fix the bug and put ath5k
and ath9k back into the kernel, you'll be able to use that, except we
will need to wait for the debian-installer team to build netinstall
images with this new kernel included.
