Running gcj gives the following error:
% gcj foo.java -o foo
gcj: libgcj.spec: No such file or directory
% gcj -v
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/3.3.3/specs
Reading specs from libgcj.spec

(After installing libgcj4-dev, libgcj.spec is found.)

No, I don't think so. gcj can be used for byte compiling without
having the libgcj binary libs installed. At least libgcj4-dev is a
recommends for gcj-3.3.
