I take it that this hack of removing the
"compat_symbol" lines from ctype/ctype-info.c
only exports these symbols for run-time
resolution but not for linking. If that is the
case, there really isn't pressing reason to
remove such a hack from glibc 2.3 until the
next major release. It's not like it will
continue to propagate the problem symbols into
new binaries.
