Hi Luis, Thanks for the info. I have tried reinstalling fontconfig to no avail. Could you give more explanation about what you mean by downgrading to Xfree86? Do you mean downgrading xserver-xfree86 to stable or xserver-common or xfree86-common? I have all 3 installed and it looks like testing and unstable have the same version--4.2.1.
