That's about right.  They didn't get started on it for a while because
gnome 2 came out during a transition of gnucash maintenance teams, and
there was difficulty (or so I'm told) getting help from the gnome 2
people.  This is no longer the case, so work is progressing at a good
pace.

Regardless, this is irrelevant.  The standard for whether a package is
in Debian is whether there is a Debian maintainer who thinks it is
worth having in Debian who is willing to maintain it.  I hereby think
that the necessary packages to support gnucash are worth having in
Debian, and I am willing to maintain them.  As they have been orphaned
and brought to my attention, I have taken over maintenance of such
packages, and intend to continue doing so in the future.
