I agree that backintime should not depend on a gnome-specific package. Having a virtual package would fix that. Adding the virtual package to the other (including KDE) freedesktop compliant icon themes are changes to less than 26 packages[1]. I would be willing to send a plan to the different desktop mailing list. As nobody has commented on this: does anybody disagree? I know we (Debian) didn't care about it for a long time, but it is never too late to fix bugs. While DE's traditionally included freedesktop-icon-themes stand-alone window manager's haven't. And now, Gnome has joined the latter group in this regard.
