Yes, it is. I am afraid accepting new maintainers takes some time, because the people who do it are very busy. So, I will probably do the initial package, which also has the benefit that you will not even dear to use debmake or debhelper (or I'll hurt you :) when you take it over :) You should try to become familiar with the Debian building tools in the mean time.
