I believe that image does not contain an installer and it is meant to be run on a virtual machine. If so, you can try the amd64 netinst.iso https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/ports/latest/hurd-amd64/netinst.iso There is only experimental support for USB sticks on hurd so you should not expect the image to work through a USB stick. You can install a hurd system on a partition from an existing linux installation on another partition. There has been some discussion about this on this mailing list. You can use mmdebstrap for this, but the process is poorly documented at this time. Best regards, João
