Ok, I have made a build with nocheck, a quick test shows that it a least
seems to be working a bit.

OK

Also, PAE works for me in a 7G VM.

Ok, that still needs to be discussed with the initscripts maintainer. In
the meanwhile, you can disable it in /usr/lib/init/mount-functions.sh,
in mount_run(), by adding exit 0 *after* read_fstab.
