I just got my very first ddts automatic notification that one of my packages descriptions has been translated into brasilian portuguese. I do not speak portuguese (not a word), neither any related language (neither any romance language in fact), and yet I immediately spotted clear mistake in the translation.
So this should be an example that direct contact with the maintainer _is_ useful, even if maintainer does not speak 4+ languages.
