I don't think there is wiki/document, but there were weekly emails the
last time gradle update was attempted. You can find them in debian-java
archive, for example here [1], look for "gradle reboot".
I see there were some attempts at v6, v8, v9, all apparently stalled or
given up.
The current situation seems untenable and not having newer versions
basically stalls all Debian Java packages where upstream apps moved on
to gradle 4+.
I tried to pull in a new upstream version of a Java app packaged in
Debian (now requires v9) and stepped into this minefield.
Has vendoring/bundling been considered at this point?
Can't answer that myself.
Should we start patching packages to rewrite gradle to maven?
I successfully switched a bunch of packages from gradle to plain javacc,
thus getting around gradle is possible at least in some cases.
