I think which task can be found in the logs. Logs of pm-utils are in /var/log/pm-suspend.log* for the hibernation case. I would look there first and make out the task. Other thing you can try, but I think it would fail as well if a task refuses to freeze: I am using pm-utils with in-kernel-suspend/hibernate and it works fine. In Sid and in Wheezy at work as well. I do not use userspace software suspend. merkaba:/etc/pm/config.d> cat sleepmodule.conf SLEEP_MODULE=kernel But if userspace software suspend is not installed, it will not be used. > its an intel core i5 , > lspci: > 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core > processor DRAM Controller (rev 09) > 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd > Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09) > 00:1a.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset > Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 (rev 04) > 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset > Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04) > 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset > Family PCI Express Root Port 1 (rev b4) > 00:1c.5 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset > Family PCI Express Root Port 6 (rev b4) > 00:1d.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset > Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #1 (rev 04) > 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation H61 Express Chipset Family LPC > Controller (rev 04) > 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset > Family SATA AHCI Controller (rev 04) > 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family > SMBus Controller (rev 04) > 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. > RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 07) That hardware should be quite unproblematic, from what I can see. Never had suspend/hibernation issues Intel hardware. Only when using to new hardware with too old kernel. From the lspci I am not sure: Is this Sandybrige (in its Xeon variant)?
