KDE5 upgrade loses settings

The most egregious of these lost settings, at least for me, is the Kate 
sessions weren't carried over. I notice that the session files are still 
in .kde/share/apps/kate/sessions but the new Kate isn't using them.

Is there a way to get the new Kate to import the katesession files?
And when Kontact is upgraded, will I lose my "settings" (calendar, 
contacts, etc. are considered to be "settings") there too?
