Package: kernel Version: N/A; reported 2004-08-30 Severity: important Tags: security
To use a miro pctv, I compiled a 2.2.22 kernel from debian stable source, and activated the framebuffer support at the same time ; all went well, and I've installed that new kernel 'the debian way' (making a package, etc.) At first glance, all went fine and to escape from the 80x25 mode I supplied video=matrox:vesa:0x11A as kernel parameter in aboot.conf ; then again all looked right (except for the Tux logo which is crippled at boot). But randomly, the machine locks up completely ; well, I thought randomly, but I finally noticed that it only happens when I'm using a curse type program (slrn, even dpkg-reconfigure), more precisely when I hit a directional arrow. I suspect without any clue that there is a timing problem somewhere, but I'm not skilled enough to prove it. Btw, I've also time to time a big white square (8x4 chars) appearing around the hw cursor. I understand that 2.2 branch may be no more a priority, but I felt that had to be reported anyway as I've already lost some files in a subsequent fsck due to 'power button reboot' as miatas have no reset switch (and I forgot to compile in the magic keys). -- System Information Debian Release: 3.0 Architecture: alpha Kernel: Linux alpha 2.2.22 #1 Sun Aug 29 03:22:34 CEST 2004 alpha Locale: LANG=french, LC_CTYPE=french
