for future reference, it looks like libofapi-dev provides
/usr/share/doc/libofapi-dev/examples/soundbus.c
After fixing a minor bug in that example [0], it builds properly, and
reports the following on the machine in question (whether or not i have
snd-powermac.ko loaded):

So that looks likely. I'll try to get a patched kernel built. Any
recommendation on the best way to deviate least from the stock squeeze
kernel while minimizing compile time? The powerpc machines i have
access to for compilation are all, uh, under-resourced.
