I would suggest first summarizing for upstream (i.e., at the bugs.freedesktop.org page) what tests you have already performed (xserver-xorg-core, xserver-xorg-video-radeon, libdrm, and kernel combinations tested --- /var/log/dpkg.log might help in this) and what was the result for each. Then if we're lucky, someone might save you time by sending a patch to check some specific guess about the cause.
