I remember having issues when experimenting with less common version numbers, but that may not have been with dashes. My hope was to build a fence around policy to save a maintainer from potential headaches (which I saw as a precaution more than a cure). Since then, many packages have been so tagged, and none of you have any problems. Turns out no fence was needed. Thank you for following up!
