Hello, what exact versions of live-* are you using?
Do you have a log of the build? Do you have a log of the console with debugging enabled? When running in kvm you can easily capture serial console. Also actually having the kvm command sounds like you are running on something ancient. I have built some live images recently so if you 'tried various versions' your image should have built also.
