Hi Scott, you are more than welcome to work on getData. I think that, in addition to be a tool to install and process local databases, it could be a tool to produce sourceless binary packages. I hope that such packages will be accepted in data.debian.org, although I admit I do not know what is the plan there. In a couple of years, there may be a demand for data packages for non-specialists. It is not impossible that anybody who has a social security and whishes to have his genome sequenced will have this possibility. I do not know how the tools to browse one's own genome as a patient will look like, but perhaps they will require a versionned human genome build with versionned accessory annotations? I think that it is still a good investment to prepare for “apt-get install human-genome”.
