I would also try the following: - create a small loopback filesystem - mount it - fill it with a nulls-only file (cp from /dev/zero) - copy the capture raw image data into a file inside the loopback filesystem - unmount it - run photorec on the loopback file Hopefully, photorec finds your image data and tells us what sort of image it is.
