That is a good question! I did intend to do so at leisure as it was my
understanding that doing this would only weaken not strengthen
dependencies and therefore 'fail safe' when not present and would not
be a regression.

But this is a new upstream version with ABI changes so maybe this is
more important than with my previous QA uploads and now is the time to
do it!

There are no other packages in Debian depending on this library so I
will want to create a local test application and package to verify
behaviour.
