Binaries in *.orig.tar.gz?

If the upstream author includes a binary precompiled
(I guess for users uncomfortable with compiling)
in his tarball, should this be passed along in the *.orig.tar.gz?

I don't want to hose any scripts expecting to find just text, and
I don't want to bloat the size unnecessarily.
