I remember seeing a question similar to this on a mailing list, but I can't
seem to find it at the moment. However, [1] might be of interest to you. It
shows how to package simple binaries without the intent of publishing them
into the official Debian archives. It creates a very bare-bone package with
no pre-install, post-install, etc. scripts, though.
