Hi, I am about to create a metapackage and I am wondering on how to create a debian/copyright that makes the ftp-masters, lintian and me happy at the same time.
Actually, the package is so simple, that I doubt there is any creative or original idea in it -- neither in the package collection itself (which is just a list of package by the same upstream), nor by the accompanied files. I doubt that an initial changelog, created by "dch --create" is copyrightable, or the mechanical writing of debian/control, or a minimal three-line debian/rules. So, as long as I don't put my own lyrics somewhere in README.Debian (which are even worse than the vogonic ones, and therefore would have a negative impact on Debian as a whole), I see no reason why I could put any license onto the package -- it is just public-domain. However, when I write a debian/copyright: --------------------------8<-------------------------- Format: http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0/ Files: * Copyright: Not applicable License: public-domain The metapackage is too trivial to claim any copyright for it. --------------------------8<-------------------------- lintian warns me about "copyright-without-copyright-notice". Shall I just make this one silent? Cheers Ole -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [email protected] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
