no, not for gpmdata. of course you and flo were right about psaux and gpm with X. turns out i had overlooked the fact that i had two -R settings in my gpm config. removing both meant that gpm was stopped when X was started and therefore allowed me to have gpm in the console and psaux in X (which *is* tunable with "Resolution"). now to find out what those other Options are for! thanks for the help...
