        You may probably want to use something like
        "--append-to-version -1" in your command line for compiling
        your kernels also, in case you need to compile more than one
        kernel with the same version and still be able to use modules
        corresponding to each compile.

        BTW, has anybody else noticed that newer versions of make-kpkg
        started to include a coff image also? I just inspected that in
        my /boot directory, besides the usual vmlinux image.
