This really sucks right now in Debian, agreed. If you are, then you could # apt-get install mozilla-firebird and things will be fine for you. Be warned to check the bug regarding mozilla-firebird that I reported on <http://bugs.debian.org/198170> as it deals with mozilla-firebird dying on powerpc, but not on i386.
