The main reason it was unusable for a while was because
osdn.debian.or.jp was down; it's now recovered, so the problem is
solved for now.
It's not in such a state where it needs to be removed from a stable
release.
I don't want to personally seriously support the version in stable,
and would really like a backported version in backports.org.
