Ah, it sounds bit dangerous. There are some incompatible characters between EUC-JP and UTF-8, such as seamark. (sorry, I haven't a complete list of them) Although I can recommend Japanese translators to use UTF-8 for po-files, please keep the encoding as same as a translator sends at this moment.
