And the first one would be a serious bug. I think we need to understand why APT cannot get it right. Could it be caused by hal-cups-utils still being required by gnome? In this case it should work better now. Another (ugly) possibility might be to add a Conflicts: python-cupsutils somewhere. This should help APT getting the scores right.
