Недефолтная, да. У меня установка: (setq x-select-enable-clipboard t) Если nil, то уже выделение в clipboard не попадает. Повторю, что это в emacs 23 (lucid), но вот с Emacs 24 надо поиграться, так как, как правильно ты заметил, они что-то изменили, но документировали это дело.
