With Ben's help - and I am ever so grateful for it Ben! - I am back to where I was when I started fighting with bootp...
So now I am static mapped, I can ping the world with ip addresses... however there appears to be a remnant of the bootp installation process still running! Each reboot wipes out resolv.conf... I gather it is relates to a process I see running at startup called DNS-Clean. However prior to that I am getting the same message in the startup process, I was getting when I was running bootp, IP-Config not complete. The result is I have everything running except name resolution.
