Well, you can boot a SMP box and use only one CPU. According to what
I've heard about sun4d, linux 2.2.x does not boot if SMP is enabled.
I've to admit that I played only a few hours with a sun4d box by myself
but the guy who tried is not a newby and as I said he spent a lot of
time on this issue.

Iirc NetBSD does not even boot on sun4d (yes there is at least *ONE*
architecture that they do not support).
