Sounds like SILO needs to be updated as to the boot device. If your previous install is configured for /dev/sda and the drive shows as something else (like /dev/sdb) it won't boot.
Of course, I'm speaking from experiance booting Debian directly, not using a tftpboot, but I think the problem is basically the same even if the actual fix is a little different.
