forgot to mention ... before i get asked;

# cat /etc/host.conf
order bind,hosts
multi on

I also tried order hosts,bind

and in /etc/nscd.conf

I tried with:

enable-cache  hosts  no

instead of 'yes' ... (put it back though).

Although all the lan hosts all resolve fine with dig, should 
the ;; AUTHORITY SECTION: below not be my localhost????
