Ik heb ontdekt welke i386-pakket in de weg zat: gcc, gnu compiler collectie (basispakket) voor i386. Dat bracht een rits aan libraries voor i386 met zich mee. Eén pakket verwijderen levert heerlijk automatisch ook de verwijdering van deze libraries op.
