vielen Dank für Eure Mühe.
Ich benutze KDE, habe aber inzwischen das Gefühl das da irgendetwas
schief läuft.
Hier meine Einstellungen:

das hat nichts gebracht.

Nein, was er wohl meint ist, dass alle nicht-us-ascii Zeichen falsch
dargestellt werden.
wenn ich z.B. "ä" drücke, kommt zwei Zeichen müll raus.
Und das nur bei den KDE-Programmen, z.B. Thunderbird oder OO funktioniert.
Und die KDE Programme funktionieren auch richtig, wenn ich unter KDE das
Gnome-Terminal öffne und dort ein KDE Programm von der Kommandozeile starte.
Sehr seltsam.
