Yes, I did try that at one point, but I think it was a case of when I did that, I had something else wrong. I won't go into all the things I tried, but they were all wrong :-) What I'm going to do when I get back to this problem is get the client machine back to a freshly installed state (as far as CUPS is concerned) and start over.
